Parts Wear Out: A Metallic Wear Visual

by John Satory February 27, 2013

This sediment was collected from my ultrasonic cleaner after a recent clean out. As you see, there's a substantial amount of ferrous materials based on the attraction to the magnet. Since I mainly put drive train components (chains, cassettes, ets.) in this cleaner, this clearly shows that there is metallic wear of said components that is mainly caused by abrasion, impact, metal-to-metal contact, etc.
